Vegan Protein Without Compromise
Our WAM protein powder is 100% vegan. We’re not using any sort of milk protein like whey protein, casein or other dairy-based proteins in our products. Instead, we use exclusively plant-based protein sources like soy, rice, and pea protein isolate. Thanks to other natural ingredients like cocoa powder, coconut milk powder and guar gum, our protein is free from sucralose, highly soluble, with a balanced aroma and creamy consistency.
Stevia Instead of Sucralose Sweetener
WAM protein powder is free from artificial sweeteners such as sucralose, aspartame, or acesulfame-K, which makes it easier to digest than most other options. WAM Protein is sweetened instead with a small amount of stevia to enhance the individual flavours and aromas. We have made sure that our protein shake is not too sweet, allowing you to adjust it to your taste.
Amino Acids for Muscle Growth
WAM is a high-quality vegan protein source rich in essential amino acids with 22 g of protein and 2.5 g of the BCAA leucine per 30 g serving, ideal for post-workout recovery. Leucine holds a special place among essential amino acids as it stimulates muscle synthesis and supports muscle growth and maintenance. Plant-based proteins are typically lower in leucine, which is why we have enriched WAM protein with an extra portion, so it is on par with whey protein.
Vegan Protein Made in Germany
We produce our WAM protein powder, including the packaging, in Germany under the strictest quality standards. The pouch format reduces storage space during transport compared to cans and therefore lowers emissions. Our pouches do not include plastic scoops, further minimising the environmental impact of our product.
We Are More
Our products are made to help you fuel up, build strength, and live a healthier, more empowered life. But we’re more than just protein powder. We’re here to challenge outdated stereotypes about who fitness, nutrition, and strength are “for”. Our mission - supported by athletes, coaches and health advocates - is to create a more inclusive fitness world, where underrepresented voices can take up space.
Is WAM protein 100% vegan?
Is WAM protein 100% vegan?
Yes — every WAM product is 100% vegan and plant-based, no exceptions. It's not just a product spec either: WAM was founded by a vegan PhD chemist who built the brand specifically to make a vegan protein that doesn't taste like a compromise.
What does WAM protein taste like?
What does WAM protein taste like?
Balanced, not overpowering. We kept the flavour light rather than intense, so it's something you look forward to rather than push through — and it means it blends into recipes instead of dominating them.
Does WAM protein mix well?
Does WAM protein mix well?
Yes — smooth in a shaker or blender, no chalky texture, no clumping. It's consistently one of the first things people mention in reviews.
Is WAM protein very sweet?
Is WAM protein very sweet?
No, deliberately. It's lightly sweetened with a small amount of stevia rather than stacked with intense sweeteners, so it doesn't have that syrupy, artificial-sweetener aftertaste.
Can I bake or cook with WAM protein?
Can I bake or cook with WAM protein?
Yes — it works well in recipes, not just shakes (think protein pancakes, muffins, baked oats). Two reasons: the flavour is balanced rather than intense, so it folds into a recipe instead of taking over; and WAM contains no sucralose. That matters specifically for baking — Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has flagged that heating sucralose above roughly 120°C, well within normal baking and roasting temperatures, can generate chlorinated by-products, and recommends against heating foods that contain it.
Is WAM protein good for muscle recovery?
Is WAM protein good for muscle recovery?
Yes! Every serving has 2.5g leucine, the amino acid that triggers muscle protein synthesis, plus 4.6–4.9g total BCAAs depending on flavour. That's in the perfect range sports nutrition research points to for post-training recovery.
How does WAM protein compare to whey?
How does WAM protein compare to whey?
Gram for gram, close: 21–23g protein and 2.5g leucine per 30g serving, in the same range as whey — but without dairy. It's blended from soy, rice, and pea protein specifically to hit a full essential-amino-acid profile that no single plant protein manages alone, so going dairy-free isn't a trade-off.
Is WAM protein gluten-free?
Is WAM protein gluten-free?
WAM protein is not certified gluten-free (yet). None of the ingredients themselves contain gluten, but it's produced in a facility that also handles cereals containing gluten (as well as eggs, soy, milk, and lupin), so cross-contamination is possible. If you have coeliac disease or a diagnosed gluten allergy, don't treat this as a gluten-free product.
Why does WAM use soy protein?
Why does WAM use soy protein?
Soy is one of the few plant proteins that's "complete" on its own, with a full amino acid profile comparable to whey. The worry usually comes from soy's isoflavones (phytoestrogens) and concerns about hormone effects; large human studies have never supported that at normal dietary intake. We use it, alongside pea and rice protein, specifically to round out WAM's amino acid profile without needing dairy.
Why is guar gum in the ingredients?
Why is guar gum in the ingredients?
Guar gum is a plant-derived thickener (fibre from guar beans) used in a small amount to give the shake a smooth, non-gritty texture. It's a common, natural, well-studied food ingredient. At the low levels used in WAM protein, its main effect is texture, not digestion. (Like any fibre-rich ingredient, very sensitive stomachs can react to large amounts, but that's not the dose in a single shake.)
Does WAM protein contain added sugar? Is it sugar-free?
Does WAM protein contain added sugar? Is it sugar-free?
No added sugar. WAM is sweetened only with a small amount of stevia (though not enough to make it thoroughly sweet or cause an aftertaste), never sugar or artificial sweeteners like sucralose. It's not zero-sugar, as small naturally-occurring sugars come from whole ingredients like coconut milk powder or banana powder in WAM Banana Bread. Check the nutrition panel for exact numbers per flavour. Either way, you're getting no added sugar and no artificial sweeteners.
Why does WAM protein contain maltodextrin?
Why does WAM protein contain maltodextrin?
Maltodextrin isn't added as a separate carb-, performance- or filler-ingredient in WAM protein. It's a sub-ingredient of the coconut milk powder (used in the spray-drying process to encapsulate fat), and EU rules require it listed in brackets, even though many brands skip that. Maltodextrin is worth knowing about at high doses if you manage blood sugar or IBD, but only very minor levels are present in WAM protein.
Does it actually contain hazelnuts or other nuts?
Does it actually contain hazelnuts or other nuts?
No! "Hazelnut" in WAM Chocolate Hazelnut protein is a flavour, not an added ingredient.
