Mimoushka Kion Interview

No Limits: An Exclusive Interview with Hyrox World Champion Mimoushka Kion

WAM: Can you introduce yourself to the WAM community? Who is Mimoushka Kion beyond the titles and world championships?

Mimoushka: Beyond the titles and world championships, I’m someone who thrives on movement - not just physically, but in life itself. Travel has shaped who I am, teaching me adaptability, curiosity, and the importance of staying connected, no matter where I am in the world. As a mother of two incredible daughters living in different countries, I understand the value of balance - between ambition and presence, discipline and joy. I love wandering through cities alone, getting lost in thought, observing life, and constantly learning. Reading is my way of feeding the mind, while sport is my way of pushing limits and proving that strength has no age. I stand for older female athletes because we are strong, determined, and know what we want. More than anything, I see life as a journey of growth, whether through competition, travel, or deep connections with the people who truly matter.

WAM: You’ve had such an impressive journey - from professional tennis to conquering Hyrox and Spartan races. What inspired you to transition into the world of endurance and functional fitness?

Mimoushka: After gaining more time for myself and taking on an exciting business opportunity in Milan, it was only a matter of time before my competitive nature found a new challenge. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone, combining endurance with speed and functionality in nature, which made Spartan races an easy choice. The mix of strength, grit, and unpredictability fascinated me. HYROX was the logical next step - it’s another hybrid sport, but with a more structured and measurable format.

WAM: You’re not just an athlete but also a personal trainer. What drives you to help others in their fitness journeys?

Mimoushka: I love sharing my experience and showing others - especially older athletes - that so much is still possible. Age is not a limitation; it’s just a number. What truly matters is mindset, consistency, and effort. I enjoy helping people rediscover their own potential, proving to them that they are capable of more than they think. Seeing someone regain confidence, strength, and joy in movement is what truly drives me as a coach.

WAM: Winning multiple Hyrox and Spartan World Championships is an incredible feat. What has been your biggest challenge in these competitions, and how did you overcome it?

Mimoushka: Just 2.5 weeks before the Spartan World Championships, I fell from an obstacle and ended up with a double bone bruise in my ankle. Technically, I couldn’t - and shouldn’t - have raced. But I had worked so hard for that moment, and deep down, I believed I could become a world champion. So, I made the choice: I taped my ankle, took painkillers, and embraced the pain for the higher goal. The Trifecta World Championships consist of three brutal races over two days, with the final race being over 20 km and packed with 40+ obstacles. . Crossing that finish line as a world champion was an indescribable feeling - worth every sacrifice. I didn’t even mind that it took me out for several months after. Some victories are just that meaningful.

WAM: Your performance is a testament to resilience and discipline. What keeps you motivated on days when training feels tough?

Mimoushka: Giving up is never an option. On tough training days, I make my goals even more vivid in my mind - I visualize what I’m working toward and remind myself why I started. But I also know that discipline doesn’t have to feel like a burden. I turn training into a game, making exercises more playful and engaging, almost like a mental challenge.

WAM: Many women, especially as they get older, hesitate to push their athletic limits. What would you say to those who think "it’s too late" to get strong?

Mimoushka: There is so much untapped potential in all of us. It’s never too late to get strong - you just have to start, step by step, and make it a habit. Don’t focus only on how far you still have to go; take time to appreciate what you’ve already achieved. Progress isn’t just about the big milestones - it’s in every small step forward. And most importantly, keep it playful. Strength isn’t just about lifting weights or running faster; it’s about enjoying the process, challenging yourself in new ways, and proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you think. Set small goals, celebrate them, and let that momentum carry you forward.

WAM: At WAM, we believe that strength is for every woman, at every stage of life. Have you ever faced skepticism or barriers in your journey as an older female athlete?

Mimoushka: No, I haven’t - because I choose not to. I keep my circle positive and small, surrounding myself with people who support and inspire me. I focus on what truly matters and listen only to those whose opinions add value to my journey. Strength isn’t just physical; it’s also about knowing where to put your energy and refusing to let doubt take space in your mind.

WAM: How do you hope to inspire other women - both younger and older - through your achievements and story?

Mimoushka: I hope to inspire other women by truly listening to them and reaching their hearts, not their egos. We all have incredible potential, regardless of age - it’s just about giving ourselves the chance to try. My story isn’t just about achievements; it’s about showing that strength comes from within, and anyone can unlock their own power when they take that first step.

WAM: What does it mean to you to be part of WAM’s mission to break stereotypes in strength sports?

Mimoushka: Being part of WAM’s mission means so much to me. I love supporting women and feeling the strength we have together. There’s something incredibly powerful about breaking stereotypes and showing the world that strong is beautiful. I’ve always believed that muscles are earned, and true strength comes from within, from determination and grit. I want every woman to know that her strength is something to be proud of, no matter where she’s at in life.

WAM: Nutrition is a key part of athletic success. How do you approach fueling your body for training and competitions?

Mimoushka: I focus on eating as clean as possible - no processed foods. Every meal includes protein, and depending on the workout’s intensity, I adjust my carbs, but I always include plenty of vegetables. I don’t drink alcohol, but I do enjoy my coffee, which I have no later than 10 a.m. The rest of the day is water and mostly herbal tea. For my sweet tooth, I satisfy it with a piece of 90% dark chocolate every day. Three days before a competition, I start carb-loading - about 20% more carbs than usual, but I stick to easy-to-digest foods like white rice and pasta. I also add extra beetroot for muscle recovery and drink extra water to ensure I’m well-hydrated. On race day, I keep everything consistent with my regular routine but eat fewer carbs to feel light and energized. I sip water throughout and take a gel just before the race and another halfway through.

WAM: How does WAM Protein fit into your nutrition routine? What do you like about it?

Mimoushka: I add WAM Protein to my morning porridge or pancakes and in the afternoon to my yogurt or nut snack. I truly believe in a vegan protein but finding a good-tasting one can be challenging. What I love about WAM Protein is not just the taste, but the purity of it - it’s clean, effective, and fits perfectly into my routine without any unnecessary additives.

WAM: If you could give one nutrition tip to women looking to build strength and endurance, what would it be?

Mimoushka: My top nutrition tip for women looking to build strength and endurance is to incorporate creatine into your routine and don’t be afraid to eat - our bodies need fuel to perform at their best. I’m not afraid of carbs; I actually love them! Just focus on eating as clean as possible and avoid processed sugars. Eating seasonal fruits is also a great way to get quick, natural energy.

WAM: You’ve already set world records - what’s next for you? Any exciting goals for 2025?

Mimoushka: For 2025, my goal is to become HYROX World Champion once again, but I’m also looking to take on a new challenge. I’m considering competing in another hybrid event, the ATHX Games, which focuses more on strength. It’s a bit of a different challenge, and I’m excited to see how I can push my limits in that arena as well. But then, I’m always open for any physical challenge.

WAM: Where can people follow your journey and get inspired by your training and achievements?

Mimoushka: You can mainly follow my journey on Instagram at @mimoushkabodycoach. I know I could be more active online, but I guess I’m from the older generation, so I keep it a bit more low-key. Still, I share my training, experiences, and achievements there, and I hope it inspires others to push their own limits.
